The Story of Medjugorje
On June 24, 1981, two young girls were walking in the hamlet of Bijakovici in the parish of Medjugorje when a woman holding an infant appeared high on a hill among the boulders and brambles of Mount Podbrdo. Instinctively, they knew it was the Virgin Mary, but they did not approach her. They and four other children felt called to return the next day, and Our Blessed Mother drew them to her, effortlessly transporting them up the mountain, over boulders and thorny bushes. The Blessed Mother introduced herself as the Queen of Peace. They fell to their knees and began to pray. She prayed with them and promised to return the next day. Our Lady has regularly appeared in Medjugorje ever since, as have countless stories of conversion and miracles, making The Story of Medjugorje one of the most fascinating in modern church history.
With the approval of the apparitions by the Vatican in September, 2024, Medjugorje has become a major Catholic pilgrimage site, with several million visitors each year and over 40 million since the apparitions began in 1981.

Day 1 – Depart US for overnight flight to Sarajevo
Days 2 – 7
Arrive in Medjugorje where we will:
- Hear reflections and personal witness from Trapper and Elizabeth
- Tour the Village of Medjugorje and learn its history
- Visit the double spiraled St. James Parish where mass and the rosary is prayed daily
- Visit Apparition Hill where Our Lady First appeared to the Visionaries in 1981
- One-day trip to Split or alternative site
- Climb Mount Krizevac (Cross Mountain) and experience the Way of the Cross built in 1933 by the villagers of Medjugorje and one of Our Lady’s favorite places to pray
- Visit Cenacolo and Mothers Village Orphanage
- Hear talks by the visionaries and other religious life residents of Medjugorje

Where We’ll Stay
When Padre Pio Pilgrimage Company brings pilgrims to Medjugorje we stay with Marija’s sister Milka whose guest house is on the property where they grew up right in front of Apparition Hill where the Blessed Mother first appeared in Medjugorje and where the most outdoor Marian Apparitions have taken place anywhere on earth.
Milka is a fabulous cook and her son Philip who runs the guesthouse are like extended family member to Padre Pio Pilgrimage Company and the pilgrims we have brought there and they ask all of us to treat their home as if it were our home (much different from the many hotels visitors now stay in in Medjugorje.
Milka will show Padre Pio Pilgrims where she was when Our Blessed Mother appeared to her on the day of Our Lady’s first appearance in Medjugorje on June 24, 1981, but did not speak to her. It was the next day, June 25, 1981, that she appeared and spoke to 6 children (including Milka’s sister Marijia) who she has appeared and spoken to daily since June 25, 1981. By staying with Milka, Padre Pio Pilgrims have access to her sister’s chapel where the Blessed Mother appears to her daily when she is in town. Padre Pio Pilgrims can be present for Maria’s apparitions when we are there and if she is in town. Is he isn’t in town we can leave petitions photos letters and other requests we have to Our Heavenly Mother right below the spot she appears when Marija is in town. After the Apparition, Marijia always tells those present that Our Lady blessed the people and also prays for the intentions and brings them to Her Son, Jesus, for intercession.
