In recognition of Medjugorje’s spiritual significance, Pope Francis in 2018 appointed an Apostolic Visitor to oversee the process of officially recognizing Medjugorje as a sacred Catholic Shrine.
On May 12, 2019 Pope Francis released a statement through the Apostolic Visitator, Henryk Hoser and the Apostolic Nuncio that the Pope has “decided to authorize pilgrimages to Medjugorje, which can now be officially organized by dioceses and parishes and will no longer take place only in a private capacity which as has so far been the case.”
As well as, since 2020 the Pope has sent a letter to the Youth Festival held in Medjugorje every summer to help build up the faith in the youth.

October 31 – Depart US for overnight flight to Split, Croatia
November 1 – 6
Arrive in Medjugorje where we will:
- Tour the Village of Medjugorje and its history
- Visit the double spiraled St. James Parish where mass and the rosary is prayed daily
- Visit Apparition Hill where Our Lady First appeared to the Visionaries in 1981
- Climb Mount Krizevac (Cross Mountain) and experience the Way of the Cross built in 1933 by the villagers of Medjugorje and one of Our Lady’s favorite places to pray
- Visit Cenacolo and Mothers Village Orphanage
- Hear talks by the visionaries and other religious life residents of Medjugorje
November 7
Travel to Split for overnight stay on the Adriatic Sea in the city where Roman Emperor Diocletian built his palace and where Game of Thrones was filmed
- City tour
- Free time for exploring & shopping
- Croatian Dinner
