Montreal 

The French-speaking city of Montreal has a rich Catholic history, having been part of “New France” from 1534 to 1763. With so many churches, it lived up to its nickname of “La ville aux cent clochers” (The City of a Hundred Bell Towers). The city was founded on May 17, 1642; and on January 6, 1943, Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve erected cross atop Mount Royal to thank God for sparing his colony from rising flood waters. It was replaced by a steel cross in 1924.

 

 

Quebec City 

A walled city, overlooking a river, with a deep French history. You might think we were talking about a city in France, but actually we are talking about Quebec City in Canada. In fact, you will find French spoken more often than English. It is the only walled city north of Mexico.

 

 

September 15 & 16 – Cleveland to Montreal flight

    We will visit the following churches during our 2 nights in Montreal.

    • St. Joseph Oratory (largest Shrine to St. Joseph in the World and final resting place for Saint “Brother” Andre Bessette.)
    • Shrine of St. Kateri Tekawitha (final resting place for St. Kateri, the first Native American Saint
    • Notre Dame dur Bon Secours (final resting place for St. Marguerite Bourgeyous)
    • Mary Queen of The World Cathedral (designed exterior and interior after St. Peter’s in Vatican City
    • St. Irenaus
    • Basilica St. Marie-Marguerite d’Youville (final resting place for St. Marie-Marguerite d’Youville located in Varennes, Quebec)

    September 17 & 18

     

    We will visit the following churches over the 2 days and 1 night we are in Quebec City.

    • Shrine of Saint Anne Beaupre – Most visited shrine in all of Canada
    • Notre Dame Cathedral (largest Parish in North America in the 1800’s and final resting place for Saint Francois de Laval)
